As Featured in Florida Design magazine - A Rosy Retreat in John's Island

Coastal charm and timeless craftsmanship come together in this family vacation home, recently featured in a top luxury home magazine.

When a Boston-based couple discovered a 1970s ranch home in the private community of John’s Island, located on the barrier island in Vero Beach, Florida, that shared the same name and street number as their favorite Jamaican cottage, it felt like fate. The home had “lovely bones,” but it needed vision—and a full transformation. Partnering with longtime friend and designer Anthony Catalfano, the homeowners brought us in to reimagine the space from the ground up, trusting our team to carry the renovation through every phase of the journey.

As builders, we approached the project in three distinct phases: the interior renovation, followed by the pool and lanai redesign, and lastly, the addition of a two-bedroom cabana. The original structure had low ceilings, small doors, and outdated finishes, so we began by opening up the layout, raising ceilings, and creating better flow between living spaces. It was important to preserve the home’s Old Florida charm while introducing the bright, cheerful atmosphere the homeowners envisioned.

Throughout the process, attention to detail and craftsmanship guided every decision. We incorporated classic materials like pecky cypress paneling and shell-stone pavers, balanced with more playful elements such as Moroccan tile and custom fretwork cabinetry. The palette—anchored in Bermuda pink, pale aqua, and emerald green—reflected the homeowner’s love of color and helped carry the tropical feel throughout the home.

The cabana, completed in the final phase, was a particularly rewarding challenge. With limited space and tight parameters, we collaborated closely with architect Pamela Fernandez to design something that felt original to the home. Vaulted ceilings, custom built-ins, and a flexible layout made it the perfect space for guests, remote learning, or quiet relaxation—all while overlooking the lake and golf course.

We’re proud to have played a part in turning this once-overlooked property into a joyful family retreat. It’s the kind of project we love most—where thoughtful design meets skilled execution, and a house becomes a home full of personality, purpose, and lasting quality.
